The first technique requires a soaking wet plain white towel, Not dripping wet but very damp. Place it over the stain and get your preheated iron and place it on the towel, You should hear the steam and see the vapour, Do not leave it on there too long as to burn the towel and periodically remove the iron and towel to check if the stain has transferred onto the towel.

Get a nail brush and a spray bottle with water only inside it. Spray the stain gently so it is damp, Then use the nail brush to work the water into the stain, Do not scrub it back and forth as you will spread the stain. Once you are satisfied you have worked the water deep into the pile of the carpet, Use a hoover with the nozzle to try to suck the stain along with the little amount of water out, Do not worry about water entering the hoover as you would have used such a small amount it will only enter the hose of the vacuum cleaner. Our disclaimer however is ensure you have your hoover plugged into an rcd protected socket and do so at your own risk.

You could try a shop bought stain remover but ensure you find out the ph level of that chemical and do a coin size test of the stain first. Once you know the ph level of the chemical, make sure you have the counter ph level chemical at the ready to bring your carpet back to a neutral level. If this step you are uncomfortable with, Then we advise calling a professional to help talk you through.

You could use nail scissors to snip the damaged pile strands out of the carpet and even replace them with strands from a section of carpet that is hidden under a bed, unit or sofa. This process is used by professionals if the carpet is un-cleanable or if it is a very expensive carpet and the customer does not want to pay out to replace it. You may find a 100% wool carpet is very difficult to remove stains from and will generally have to be left slightly more on the acidic side of the ph scale.
